  Promotion: Ads

I have $100 in credits for Google AdWords. I will be using it to contribute towards AssaultCube Reloaded.

If it is possible, someone please design an image advertisement.

I already wrote a text ad, which is already active.

It is my hope that this will get more players, so this project isn't so dead.

Requested:

  • Full banner (468x60)
  • Leaderboard (720x80)

  New Domain
Posted by: Victor - 04-07-2012, 06:19 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (4)

Due to the lack of trust in ".tk", this site will be migrated to my subdomain, victorz.ca.

This means:
http://acreloaded.tk -> http://acr.victorz.ca
http://forum.acreloaded.tk -> http://forum.acr.victorz.ca
http://wiki.acreloaded.tk -> http://wiki.acr.victorz.ca

Pending
http://ms.acreloaded.tk -> http://ms.acr.victorz.ca

Basically, the entire "acreloaded.tk." delegation is moved under "acr.victorz.ca."

Why did I choose ".ca"?
Because they don't publish my dox, ".ca" is superior to all other TLDs. It's like free domain privacy, but only to Canadian individuals under ".ca".

Why not "acreloaded.ca"?
Because this project is international, not just Canadian. Also, ".com" is contrary to the fact that this project is open-source.
It's easier to just put it under my personal domain.

Is it harder to remember?
Probably not, it is exactly the same length (12 letters) if you exclude the delimiters/periods.

TL;DR
If dot.tk steals acreloaded.tk, don't worry; we shall operate under another domain.

Please follow @acreloaded on Twitter for further information upon domain switches.

.tk has a bad reputation of stealing free domains. They cannot do the same with paid domains, because it legally belongs to the purchasers.

Just yesterday, I discovered that they stole my victorz.tk domain.

I wrote to them:
I Wrote:I am the free registrant of victorz.tk. It has come to my attention that my domain, victorz.tk, has been suspended without notice. The page now says that “[it has] been suspended because of abuse or copyright reasons”.

My domain, victorz.tk, used to be a personal site. Now, it has been suspended and replaced with an "abuse" page suggesting that some nefarious content had been there.

This is unacceptable. I did not receive any notification or explanation as to why it's happened, nor have I been offered any way to remedy it.

The fact that dot.tk, for no reason other than greed, can go around arbitrarily cancelling domains of users who have invested many hours of their time, all while being led to believe that the domains is, for all intents and purposes, theirs to use forever, is deeply wrong.

Why would you want to destroy our sites? It only makes your reputation look bad, as you are already known for replacing peoples' free domains with parking pages when they get a reasonable amount of traffic.

Abusing your cancellation/suspensions enrages users; this practice is not good on your reputation.

I would like to hear more details for this as I am sure that my domain is not abuse and does not infringe any copyright.

Thank you in advance.

If I purchase myself a domain in the future, I could create a delegation for acr.[victor]., with forum.acr.[victor] and ms.acr.[victor], where [victor] is my own domain.

I haven't made many changes, but I added team scores, potentially fixed a bug, and may add Kill Confirmed.

I still need a codename for this release.

  SOPA/Protect-IP Protest
Posted by: Victor - 01-18-2012, 12:26 PM - Forum: Announcements - Replies (7)

As this game's mirrors are primarily in the United States, the main page will be a copy of http://acreloaded.tk/sopa/ for January 18, 2012.

It will return headers 503, so don't worry, the search engines won't cache it.

There is an option to bypass this, just click the bypass link.

Notice how the shadows aren't quite right. This is a symbol. Light is the opposite of shadow, and "evil censorship" is therefore the opposite of "stopping SOPA + PIPA".

  2.4 Functional
Posted by: Victor - 01-16-2012, 03:12 PM - Forum: Releases - Replies (20)

This version is fully functional, and will be where I will cease development of this game.

1 developer - me = 0 developers

I will make sure that all critical bugs are gone before I make this release on 21/1/12 (this date is a palindrome!). I hope more people enjoy this game and more 24/7 servers will be running, but if nobody does anything, it might die.

This game is no longer being developed. I may return in the future, but my task list has many items. 2 years ago, I told a friend I would start to develop a multi-player flash game, and put it on my site. I also told another friend the same, but it was using DHTML instead. The following year, I've barely started either of them. Even today, they're incomplete.

Well anyways, enjoy this "final" release.

  2.3.4 Stablilized
Posted by: Victor - 01-02-2012, 04:28 PM - Forum: Releases - No Replies

The key feature is that I FIXED AND VERIFIED MANY CRASHES, namely a buffer overread, a buffer overflow, and an infinite loop that allocates memory for packets every time it runs.

I also added the headshot head-damage effect and deathcam.

Now I just need some servers and more players.

  Regarding the Crashes
Posted by: Victor - 12-28-2011, 07:46 PM - Forum: Releases - Replies (15)

I know that it is a segmentation fault that causes it, but I could not find it.

I am running the "official server" as an experiment. It runs on the latest version possible. If it does not get a segfault over time, then I will know that the problem is likely fixed and I should make a new release soon. Otherwise, I will continue to look for the issue.

2.3.4 is coming soon.

All bugs are fixed, and verified with the following command:

Code:
/alias lol [gamespeed 1000;sleep 1000 [lol]];lol;botbalance 20

The testing procedure is to use the above command, wait for next round, and repeat once.

No crash occurred from the testing the first time.

EDIT: Looks like a crash from some subsequent tests... time to compile a debug client.

EDIT 2: The debug server (and Visual Studio's debugger) has found a buffer overflow that occurred from a typo.

EDIT 3: enet got a stack overflow when it ran out of memory (probably due to the way I was testing it, server debug with 40x speed), but should be "stable" now as there is no need to run a server at 40x.

EDIT 4: enet bug only happens if suicide bomber is deployed (infinite loop makes infinite packets, then enet can't allocate memory on the heap!)

EDIT 6: description of edit 3/4's bug:
you are about to be killed -> suicide bomber is deployed -> you are about to be killed -> suicide bomber is deployed -> ...
and it runs out of memory making packets on the heap for this...

but fixed in SVN.

EDIT 5: merged 2.3.4 with crash thread

  2.3.3 New Year's Patch
Posted by: Victor - 12-25-2011, 05:44 PM - Forum: Releases - Replies (12)

Just because the 2.3.2 release went all wrong!

You may download the full package, or there is also a 2.3.3-delta package, which only includes the changes.

I will continue to remove bugs until December 27, 2011 and release 2.3.3. This patch is dedicated to New Year's Day (Saturday, January 1, 2012).
